Over the first 18 weeks of the new year, we will be conducting one on one interviews with each of our veterinarians in an effort to help you get to know all of them better! In addition to the interview, they will be posting pictures on our facebook account during their week to share some behind the scenes images of their day to day. We hope you enjoy following along!
Up this week is Caitlin Manring, DVM. Dr. Manring is part of our Peak Performance team and currently in Ocala, FL for the season, where she has been since November. Last year she split her time between Ocala and Middleburg, VA.
Q: What colleges/universities did you attend? When someone asks “where did you go to school?” what do you tell them?
A: Undergrad: California Polytechnic State Univ San Luis Obispo
Vet School: THE Ohio State University
When people ask, I definitely say Ohio State. Going to a football game at the “Shoe” is unlike any other experience. It’s both thrilling and humbling to be part of the tradition and legacy. I also joined a veterinary fraternity (Omega Tau Sigma) which provided me with colleagues that have become more like family.
Q: Tell me about the animals you own now.
A: Cricket – 7 year old mixed lab/pit. We do a lot of hiking! We attempted to cover a significant portion of the Appalachian Trail near Middleburg, VA this past summer.
Q: What do you do for fun, outside of work and spend time with your animals?
A: Crossfit, hiking, boating, off road racing, camping.
Q: If you weren’t a vet, what would you do for a living?
A: Some form of human sports rehabilitation. I am fascinated by fitness and nutrition and enjoy helping others reach their fitness goals.
Q: What is the hardest thing you’ve ever accomplished?
A: Moving to another country to start my career as a veterinarian. Not knowing anyone that lived there and creating a new life was the hardest, but ultimately most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
Q: Favorite place you’ve ever traveled to?
A: I have two answers. 1. New Zealand (North Island) – gorgeous landscapes and thrill seeking outdoor sports. 2. Aruba – friendly locals and breathtaking beaches
Q: Dream vacation?
A: South Africa – the culture, the wildlife – I can’t imagine a better slice of humble pie
Q: Favorite food?
Q: Favorite adult beverage?
A: Bourbon on the rocks
Q: Favorite sports team?
A: The Ohio State Buckeyes… OH!
Q: What are you currently watching on Netflix?
Q: Something most people don’t know about me…
A: I love to skydive, becoming licensed is on my bucket list
Q: I am obsessed with…
Q: If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it — metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions — what would it say and why? It could be a few words or a paragraph. (If helpful, it can be someone else’s quote: Are there any quotes you think of often or live your life by?)
A: Be happy, be kind, be understanding
